And these are the days of our lives…

Yes, this one got deleted. If you want to know why, look here.

Moving again.

We’ll be pulling up stakes, packin’ up and heading back up north in a very short time. We lasted a year down here. It was nice, but this wasn’t working out for us. Oh well.

We moved to San Diego hoping that I would be more active (and potentially get back to work, at least part-time). I don’t hurt as much in warmer weather, so I thought I’d get busy and do stuff. Instead the opposite happened. We both turned into couch potatoes.

There were no kids to keep up with, no friends for John to hang out with, just us and the dog. He’d come home from work and we’d both just sit there, either play on the computer or watch TV. Ohmygod I have never watched so much TV in my life!!

There was just no impetus to get up and do anything. And that I don’t understand. San Diego is beautiful. Lord knows my mother kept moving back here time and time again until she finally died. I may do the same. I’ve moved here three or four different times. I love the beaches here. I don’t understand the weather this year…what happened to HOT? I can move when it’s hot. But now it’s just medium warm and humid. I feel like I’m walking in water. But I’m off topic again…so, for whatever reason, we just were lumps this past year.

The problem was that John travels so much that there wasn’t time for him to develop any friendships. And this is a man that needs friends. And his friends need him. His Facebook account blew up when he said he was moving back north. His friends are more than ready for him to come home.

We had a choice between moving to Seattle or pretty much anywhere the government had space in Washington. He’s lucky to have a job that doesn’t really matter where he is located. And right now it seems the work is always were he isn’t!

So Richland, for John’s parents, family, friends (obviously!) and the sunnier weather seems like the best option. It’s four hours from Seattle so I can go visit kids and friends. I’m going to have a grandson any day now and it will be nice to be close enough to see him grow up.

So…Richland, huh? I know that they have hydroplane races there. The Hanford Site is there too. Now that’s something to get excited about. Other than that, I don’t know much about it. But John is excited to be going home so I’m okay with it.

It’s the whole moving thing that is going to kick my butt. I really, really want to just load up a Goodwill truck and call it good. All those books I keep lugging around with me…do I really need them? And clothes? That I know darn well I’ll never fit into again? And the monstrous elliptical machine that sits in our garage and gathers dust?  Not sure what the point is to hauling all that stuff back up north.

And another thousand-plus mile trip in a truck with a dog. Am I excited or what?
